When I started my MBA, I knew it would be a season of growth, but I didn’t realize how much it would challenge me to balance that growth with authenticity. Every class, project, and networking opportunity has pushed me to expand my knowledge and leadership skills. At the same time, I’ve learned that growth can sometimes feel overwhelming if I lose sight of who I am at the core.
One of the biggest lessons has been learning how to balance ambition with staying grounded. It is easy in a competitive program to compare yourself to others or feel pressure to constantly achieve more. But authenticity has been my anchor. I have learned to lead in a way that reflects my values, to share my story openly, and to remind myself that I am not here just to earn a degree. I am here to build a foundation for the kind of leader I want to become.
I have also realized that growth and authenticity do not have to be opposites. In fact, they strengthen each other. Being authentic allows me to take on challenges with confidence, and growth provides the experiences that deepen my authenticity. Whether it is collaborating with classmates on a group project, mentoring through CBESS, or learning from voices like Mel Robbins, I have seen that the moments where I have grown the most are the ones where I stayed true to myself.
My MBA journey is still in progress, but I already see how it is shaping my personal brand, Authentically Aileen. Growth has made me more resilient, while authenticity has kept me connected to my purpose. Together, they have taught me that success is not about doing everything. It is about doing the right things in a way that aligns with who you are.
If you are on a journey of growth, ask yourself: how can you stay true to your authentic self along the way? Share your thoughts in the comments or connect with me on LinkedIn. I would love to hear your perspective.
