There’s something powerful about finding beauty in the in-between moments of your career. For a long time, I thought success only looked like landing the dream job or achieving big milestones. But I’ve learned that romanticizing the process, the matcha mornings before class, the quiet grind in my laptop corner, and even the late nights planning events for CBESS, makes the journey feel meaningful. The little details are what remind me that I’m living a chapter I used to dream about.

Romanticizing your career doesn’t mean ignoring the hard work or glamorizing burnout. It’s about slowing down enough to appreciate how far you’ve come and the lessons you’re learning along the way. When I look back at old notes from undergrad or pictures from my first conference, I realize that each experience, even the ones that felt uncertain, helped me grow into the leader I’m becoming today. Every season, every opportunity, and every small win deserves celebration.

As I approach graduation with my MBA this December, I’ve been reflecting on what comes next. My graduate assistantship with CBESS will soon come to an end, and with it, one of the most meaningful chapters of my academic and professional journey. CBESS has shaped me in so many ways, from managing projects and mentoring students to helping build a program that creates real community impact. It’s bittersweet to know this season is ending, but I’m grateful for the foundation it’s given me as I take my next steps toward new opportunities.

This mindset has helped me stay grounded through all the changes ahead. Instead of rushing to the next goal, I try to focus on gratitude for the present. Whether it’s listening to a podcast while commuting, dressing up for class, or sharing a latte with a mentor, I’ve learned to treat these moments as reminders that progress is happening in real time. If you’re constantly chasing what’s next, you might miss the beauty of what’s already here.

So here’s your reminder to slow down and appreciate your own journey. Take a walk after work, make your to-do list cute, or write down one thing you’re proud of this week. You’re already living part of your success story, it just takes a little perspective to see it.

What’s one small way you’re romanticizing your career journey right now? Share it in the comments, I’d love to hear your story.

I love this blog Aileen! I feel like I am caught in the same trap of always looking forward at the next big thing but its been a while since I last paused to see how much progress I have made in the last year, month, and honestly even week! Just this last week I submitted for a huge deadline on a project that required me to have skills I knew nothing about before I started. And now I am flying through those tasks with ease. Thanks for this reminder!

Thank you so much, Serena. I completely understand that feeling. It’s so easy to focus on the next big thing and forget to recognize how much we’ve already grown. Your example from this week is amazing. It takes a lot of courage to learn new skills from scratch, and it’s even more impressive that you’re moving through those tasks so confidently now. I’m really glad this reflection came at the right time for you. Thank you for sharing your experience.
